Onsite participants - Friday events at APhA Headquarters (2215 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20037) are for onsite attendees only. Saturday onsite attendee events will be hosted at Convene (1201 Wilson Blvd.).

Erin Albert

Chief of Pharmacy Relations, Network, and Privacy

Erin Albert has served pharmacy for over 3 decades and law for over a decade. She has worked in community practice pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, taught at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for over a decade, consulted to the pharmaceutical, drug price benchmarking, and health care benefit plan markets, and most recently worked for Apex Benefits prior to joining MCCPDC. She is also a former president of The American Society for Pharmacy Law, the founder of the Diplomat American Society for Pharmacy Law year-long leadership program, and Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, Indiana Chapter. In her current role at Cost Plus Drugs, she works with a variety of stakeholders in the pharmacy and health care privacy spaces to get the lowest net costs for prescription drugs to patients in the United States. She is both a licensed pharmacist in several states and an attorney and was promoted to chief of pharmacy relations, network, and privacy from VP level at MCCPDC in 2025. She is the only C-suite level woman and pharmacist-attorney at Cost Plus Drugs.

Shy Kapan, PharmD, RPh, is an Operational Excellence Senior Manager currently supporting the Immunology & Inflammation and Specialty Care Medical Affairs, Content and Communication team at Pfizer. Previously a medical affairs post-doctoral fellow through the Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship Program, he worked closely with U.S. and global directors on medical activities such as publications, advisory boards, congresses, and communications within several therapeutic areas. Shy also serves as an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, his alma mater, to help students explore possible career pathways and connect in class learnings with real world applications.

CAPT Tami Rodriguez

CAPT Rodriguez, director of pharmacy programs for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, oversees pharmacy services for 158,000 adults in custody across 121 institutions. A USPHS Commissioned Corps officer since 2010, she holds board certifications in pharmacotherapy and HIV and a master’s in pharmacy leadership. She co-leads national initiatives in HIV care, COVID-19 response, and OUD treatment. A published author and mentor, she champions underserved populations and pharmacist leadership. Her accolades include the USPHS Meritorious Service Medal and BOP Norm Carlson Award. She lives in Virginia with her husband and three dogs.

Alexis Shook

Alexis Shook is a clinical pharmacist practitioner at UNC Campus Health Services, PGY1 community-based pharmacy residency site coordinator, and assistant adjunct professor for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She attended undergrad at UNC–Chapel Hill and pharmacy school at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Alexis completed both the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program and Community-based Mental Health Fellowship through UNC at the Campus Health site, then stayed on for a full- time position. Clinical areas of interest include mental health, asthma, sports pharmacy, and contraception. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her husband, cats, and puppy, reading anything she can get her hands on, watching sports, and traveling as much as she can.

Elodie Tendoh is a pharmacist, educator, and financial strategist dedicated to empowering communities. She earned her PharmD and master of science in palliative care from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and went on to complete a PGY1 residency at the University of Maryland Medical System. Her career includes roles as transitions of care pharmacist, pharmacy manager at the COVID-19 Field Hospital, IV pharmacist at NIH, and clinical pharmacist at Adventist Health. In 2022, Tendoh expanded her mission of service by entering the financial services industry. Today, she is a licensed senior broker in Maryland, leading a team of dedicated professionals. Together, they are committed to helping individuals and families take control of their financial futures by building healthier habits around earning, saving, investing, and protecting money.

Dr. Alex C. Varkey

PharmD, MS, FAPh

Dr. Alex C. Varkey, PharmD, MS, FAPhA, is a nationally recognized pharmacy leader who has dedicated more than 20 years to advancing the pharmacist’s role in patient care, health- system innovation, and professional well-being. He currently serves as Senior Director of Strategic Accounts at Visante, where he partners with health-system leaders across the country to improve pharmacy operations, expand clinical services, and implement cutting- edge technologies that enhance patient outcomes.

Prior to this role, Dr. Varkey served as Director of Pharmacy at Houston Methodist Hospital, a 950-bed academic medical center, where he led the implementation of advanced technologies—ranging from electronic health record transitions and robotic sterile compounding to RFID tracking and Raman spectroscopy for diversion prevention. He established a nationally recognized Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program and oversaw the expansion of a suite of clinical pharmacy services and education initiatives, including the hospital’s award-winning PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency program.

A dedicated servant leader, Dr. Varkey’s passion for professional service began early—as national president of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA–ASP)—and has continued for nearly two decades. He most recently served as the 169th President of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), becoming the first Indian-American to hold this office in the organization’s 172-year history. He also previously chaired APhA’s Well-Being Steering Committee, where he championed pharmacist well-being as essential to a high-functioning healthcare system.

Dr. Varkey has also demonstrated exceptional leadership in times of crisis. He led pharmacy operations during natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey and multiple extreme weather events, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic—coordinating large-scale efforts to vaccinate and treat over 150,000 individuals across Houston. Alex earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Houston and a Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University, completing a two- year residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
